In January 2018, a seven year old girl named Zainab was abducted, raped and murdered in city of Kasur. This led to public outcry and several good samaritans including parliamentarians stepped in. This highlighted the underlying issue of crimes against children and irresponsible policing and brought it into the attention of general public.
Out of this reason the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan decided to address future matters of similar nature, by creating a new department and an alert named as ("Zainab Alert"). A service similar to Amber Alert (Child Abduction Emergency Alert) in United States.
The act received Presidential Assent of his excellency President Dr. Arif Alvi on 19th March, 2020.
Mainly the idea behind the alert is to force the law enforcement agencies to take stern & prompt actions against child abductions in a more responsible manner.
Her murderer, namely 24-year old Imran was hanged to death during the early hours of Wednesday, 17 October, 2018 in Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Central Jail.
Opinion: I don't see any improvements in the overall behaviour of Law Enforcement when a similar matter is reported.
